This play restates the reaction and mechanism of falling under the sword and shield, which was introduced in the first play.
Maybe it is here to show the action from the other side. But it is also possible that here the scholar defends the hand-snipe by pulling hands low. We can see that in this play, tha priest's blade is much higher above the scholar's hands then in the first play.
