Schutzen plays an important and quite variable role in I.33, which was described in the theory of schutzen.
Schutzen can be used as a siege in two ways.
- As a cut aimed at the opponent's sword, beating it away.
- As a position to close the line of attack the opponent will be using and step in. This is an example shown in the first play of schutzen.
