Commentary
This play gives a general advice of how to defend against a thrust - the defender should immediatelly take the bind and defend by leading the oponent's sword away. We are also getting the two types of binds (above and below), with a clear preference for the above one.
The second page refers to the play of binder and the bound. What is possibly happening here is
- the priest has taken the bind above and on the right
- the scholar reacts faster, leaves the bind and goes for a strike to the head
- the priest reacts according to the play of binder and the bound - he follows the opponents sword with his shield (possibly even performing schiltslack), while thrusting in his head at the same time.
